Alloa stun Inverness to end half-century wait to reach League Cup quarter-finals
Alloa's tale of giant-killing continued after they beat Inverness 1-0 to reach the League Cup quarter-finals for the first time in 51 years.
The Wasps had already knocked out holders Ross County and completed a Highland double thanks to Jason Marr's decisive first-half strike.
It is the first time since the 1965-66 season that they have gone this far in the competition and it maintained their 100 per cent record this season.
Premiership side Inverness failed to create many opportunities in this Betfred Cup last-16 tie but perhaps the best one fell to Iain Vigurs, only for the midfielder to fire wide from 12 yards.
The Caley Jags also struck the bar with the first real chance of the match on 22 minutes, when home goalkeeper Neil Parry produced a fine save to tip Liam Polworth's stinging drive onto the woodwork.
However, Jack Ross' Alloa remained undeterred and stunned the Highlanders when they opened the scoring minutes later.
Calum Waters delivered a teasing ball into the danger area and Marr stabbed home despite a scramble on the goal line.
The League One outfit had already helped dispose of Ross County in the group stages and, after five successive wins to open the season, they showed they were more than a match for their top-flight opponents.
So much so that Inverness struggled to break down Alloa's defence, despite scoring 12 goals in their last two Betfred Cup games.
Vigurs passed up a glorious opportunity to level the scores when he volleyed wide from 12 yards before he was denied by Parry with a fierce drive moments later.
Aaron Doran made his first appearance in over a year after a dislocating his knee but he was unable to prevent Richie Foran's men from going out.
