Morton hit Alloa hit for six at Recreation Park to suggest that last week's results - a heavy home defeat for the Greenock club and a spirited win for Alloa - had been somewhat misleading.

This was also Joe McLaughlin's first victory as Morton's caretaker manager, but with 25 others in contention for the job he may struggle to hold on to it for long.

Alex Williams has already had a goal disallowed for offfside and John Maisano had seen his shot cleared off the line by the time Morton went ahead after 28 minutes.

Maisano was again involved, setting up striker Peter Weatherson for an emphatic left-foot finish against a hesitant home defence. With Maisano continuing to run the show, only nervous goal -keeping from Craig Coyle and an accidental clash of heads between Chris Millar and Stewart Greacen caused Morton any concern before half time.

Millar proved he was fully recovered three minutes into the second period by firing the visitors 2-0 up from fully 25 yards, and Weatherson soon made it three with a glancing header from Maisano's corner.

Subsitite Jason Walker grabbed a controversial fourth goal after Weatherson took a quick free-kick with the ball clearly still moving.

And although Dougie Hill pulled one back from Alloa with a header at the back- post, Richard Walker stayed onside to score again before Maisano rounded off a busy individual display by completing the rout in the final 30 seconds.
