Alloa kept their league survival chances alive when they held Ayr to a hard-fought draw at Recreation Park.

Ayr snatched the opener in the second minute. Paul Weaver was 25 yards out when he latched on to a Raymond Logan cross and fired home an unstoppable shot past Allan Creer in the Alloa goal.

Ayr had a chance to extend their lead after 10 minutes when Logan outjumped the home defence to connect with a Chris Robertson free-kick, but his header went over the bar.

Two minutes later Logan combined well with Jerome Vareille, but his shot was brilliantly saved by Creer in the Alloa goal.

Alloa fought their way back into the game and were rewarded in the 24th minute. James Stevenson was fouled on the edge of the box and the ball slithered past Mark McGeown in the Ayr goal from his quickly taken free- kick while the Ayr defence was trying to arrange themselves.

Alloa's Ross Hamilton wasted a great chance in the 43rd minute when the Ayr keeper dropped the ball at his feet but his shot went past the post.

After 54 minutes poor defending by Alloa allowed Ayr to break through, and Chris Strain missed from close range when he connected with a Logan pass.

In the end a draw was a fair result as neither team did enough to take control and win this match outright.
