Alloa started the match the stronger side but were stunned after five minutes when Martin Wood gave Peterhead the lead against the run of play. Fraser Forrest in the heart of the Alloa defence failed to clear the ball and Graham Sharp intercepted, for Wood to tap-in from close range.

Two minutes later Alloa came close when Robert Sloan made contact with a Graeme Brown cross but his low shot near the post was cleared by Paul Mathers in the Peterhead goal. Both sides tried desperately to take the upper-hand in this match, but strong defending from both teams kept the score at one-nil until the 36th minute when Ross Hamilton, from four yards out, tapped home a Brown cross. Then iIn the 41st minute Brown, standing six yards out, with only the 'keeper to beat drove the ball wide of the post.

From the start of the second half Peterhead made it clear that they wanted to take the points from this match and threw everything at the Alloa defence. In the 53rd minute Martin Bavidge ran onto a clearance but his fierce shot from 20-yards out was touched over the bar by Allan Creer in the Alloa goal.

In the 86th minute Robert Sloan came close to giving Alloa a dream end to the match but his fierce shot was brilliantly save, low to Mathers right-hand post to deny Alloa the victory that their second half play deserved.
