Scottish division two newcomers Peterhead were convincingly beaten by a strong Alloa side on their first ever visit to Recreation Park, Alloa.

Peterhead opened the stronger side and in the opening minutes spurned chances. In the first minute, Bobby Linn shot past the post from a Martin Bavidge cross. Then in the ninth minute, Mark Perry saw his well-struck shot saved by Gary McGlynn.

Alloa were awarded their first corner in the 14th minute and this resulted in their opener when Darran Thomson was on hand to fire home from 25 yards.

Alloa extended their lead in the 23rd minute when Michael Bolochoweckyj fired home a James Stevenson corner that fell at his feet.

Peterhead tried desperately to get back into the match but could do little to stop the Alloa pressure, which was again in the 31st minute through a mistake by Craig Tully, who could not avoid a Ross Hamilton cross and watched helplessly as the ball beat his own keeper.

At the start of the second half Peterhead substituted Tully for Graeme Stewart, and it was Stewart who gave Bavidge a chance to pull a goal back in the 47th minute, but his well-struck shot came back into play from the post.

It was Alloa who extended their lead in the 53rd minute when John Ovenstone rose unchallenged above the Peterhead defence to head home from close range.

Peterhead kept up their challenge and were rewarded for their pressure when danger man Bavidge ran on to a perfect Linn cross and headed past a helpless McGlynn in the Alloa goal
